The Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II is a full-frame constant-aperture telephoto zoom lens designed to deliver excellent G MASTER resolution and optimized bokeh for both still and movie image quality, as well as superior autofocus performance. Featuring two aspherical elements and one XA (extreme aspherical) element, this lens ensures high resolution across the entire image area throughout the zoom range and at all focusing distances. To minimize chromatic aberration, the lens incorporates two ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements, two Super ED glass elements, and one ED aspherical element, while Sony's Nano AR (anti-reflective) Coating II helps to subdue flare and ghosting.
For additional reach, high-performance 1.4x and 2x teleconverters (sold separately) are available. The lens boasts an impressive angle of view (APS-C) of 23°- 8°6 and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.3x.
Powered by four of Sony's original XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors, the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II delivers lightning-fast and precise continuous autofocus and tracking for both stills and movies, with a speed boost of up to 4x compared to the previous model. The improved AF tracking while zooming, with an increase of approximately 30%, greatly enhances the likelihood of capturing the shot, even with rapidly moving subjects.
Designed with movie production in mind, the lens incorporates the latest lens technology to minimize focus breathing, focus shift when zooming, and axis shift when zooming. The XD Linear Motors and a new aperture drive unit contribute to quiet operation, while the independent control rings for focus, zoom, and iris, along with a click on/off switch for the aperture ring, make this lens an ideal choice for movie shooting. Sony's Linear Response MF feature ensures responsive and repeatable direct manual focus control.
Weighing in at just 2.3 lb. (1045 grams), the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II is the world's lightest* 70-200mm F2.8 zoom lens, approximately 29% lighter than the previous model. This outstanding optical quality and autofocus performance come in a lightweight package, thanks to the use of magnesium alloy barrel components.
