The Sunerlies, a land traditionally known as a refuge for convicts, rebels, and the unwanted dregs of society, continues to be a place where the law-abiding population must exercise eternal vigilance to ensure their safety. For Jenneth and Diccon, the sixteen-year-old twins of Doyce and Jenret, the very name of this region summons visions of exotic adventure.
When Jenret proposes taking the twins, along with any friends who wish to join, on a business trip to the Sunerlies, the young siblings can hardly contain their excitement. However, as the journey begins, the party finds themselves plagued by a series of unsettling incidents. Doyce, newly retired from her position as Seeker General, had hoped to use the trip to rekindle her emotional connection with her husband Jenret, but instead, they seem to be caught in a private war that neither can control. Even before setting sail, "accidents" start to occur, with Doyce being thrown from her mount and a campfire explosion threatening Jenneth, Diccon, and the other children.
Despite these ill omens, the group remains determined to continue their expedition. Yet the real disaster strikes at sea when a storm sweeps Jenneth and Pw'eek overboard. Desperate to find his lost twin, Diccon is unaware of the worst that still lies ahead—in the Sunerlies, where a once-vanquished and long-vanished enemy awaits, a fanatic determined to eradicate Resonates and Seekers alike.
The Sunerlies, a land that has traditionally been a haven for society's outcasts, continues to hold an air of exotic adventure for Jenneth and Diccon. But as the twins and their companions embark on their journey, they find themselves confronted with a series of unsettling events and the looming threat of a formidable adversary. With Doyce and Jenret's relationship strained and the safety of the entire party in jeopardy, the expedition to the Sunerlies becomes a high-stakes adventure with the potential for profound consequences.
